Please tell us the year established and brief history of Network Solutions? |
Network Solutions started out in 1979 as a technology consulting company with a focus on applications development. In 1993, Network Solutions was awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to develop the Internet''s domain name registration service. After developing the technology, Network Solutions became the first and only domain name registrar until 1999, when the domain name industry opened up to competition. In 2000, Network Solutions was acquired by VeriSign.
In 2003, Network Solutions was acquired by Pivotal Equity Group, a private investment firm. At that time, the company re-launched the Network Solutions brand and began concentrating on developing a robust suite of Web-related services to help small businesses establish and grow their companies online. In 2007, Network Solutions ownership changed again, this time to General Atlantic, a global private equity firm, acquired the company. Our focus continues to be on providing results driven online marketing services for small to medium sized businesses.
Today, Network Solutions has more than 3.9 million small business customers, hosting 7+ million domain names and millions of e-mail boxes and Web sites for its customers.
